Chin Hair and Sin. . .by Kate Young
Most women hate to admit it, but as we age, many of us have to deal with pesky chin hairs due to a hormonal changes in our bodies. These hairs are not soft and a natural light color like the rest of hair on our face. These hairs are hard, dark and unsightly, much like we think of sin in our life. When they first appear, they can be there for weeks, until they get so long that we finally feel them as we brush our hand along our chin. I liken this to a new Christian who for the first
time is seeing and acknowledging sin in their life. As the Holy Spirit now tells them there is something in their life that doesn't belong and needs to be uprooted, just like these chin hairs.
1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Shaving the chin hairs might make them less noticeable but it doesn't get rid of the hair that will grow back. That is why they must be plucked from the root. This is how we should deal with sin. We need to find the root of the issue, renounce it to Jesus, and ask for His forgiveness so that it will be taken out of our life.
Hebrews 12:15
See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many
As we grow in our faith, we become more eagle-eyed on sin, just as many women become more concerned with their chin hair. Once they realize that the chin hair is coming in, they learn to deal with it.
Keeping closer account, we see when a new chin hair erupts…..almost as it breaks the skin. We're feeling it erupt, conscious of the change in the skin of our chin. God also gives us this ability with sin as the Holy Spirit prompts us about what needs plucked and
confessed. We grow in our faith and have a better ability to hear what He is telling us. The more sin we confess, the closer he will draw near. Once we confess sin, it sometimes reappears, just like chin hairs do. We need to be on the look out for it erupting in our life just
as we keep watch on our chins. I bet you never thought chin hairs and sin had any commonality, but the Lord showed me that they indeed do.
Keep your sin and chin hair uprooted and you will look better on the
outside as well as the inside to God and to others.
