Some Thoughts on John. . .

Our Babes Bible Study launched a new semester today in Houston with a study on the Book of John titled, "Forward to Eternity."

Each woman was encouraged to share a favorite scripture from John and its relevance to her life. Click the comment line below to browse their thoughts or leave a comment of your own:)

Here's mine:

"For He whom God sent speaks the words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure. . .."--John 3:34.
I really like this scripture because God the Father wants us to live in the fullness of His Spirit. He does not dole out His love or grace in portions or leave us to figure things out for ourselves. He has given us all that we need to live a righteous, fully-committed life--His own Son!
Before I knew Jesus, I always felt alone--even in a crowd of people--I felt there was something missing. But I've never felt alone since--whether I'm around other people or not. I would not trade one moment of my life before Christ for my life now!

John 3:36 (New International Version)
36Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on him."

I've had many friends who like to believe there are other ways to heaven other than salvation through Jesus. I've seen seen Oprah be deceived as such. If there were, it would negate everything HE did on the cross for us, plus, here it is black and white in God's word in John 3:36. People love to look at the loving side of God and ignore his justice. He is sovereign and HIS way is written down for all to see, whether or not we choose to believe. I believe Jesus that you died for my sins and I will have eternal life: Thank YOU Lord~!

Oops, let's try this again. :)

Love this question! Far too many verses are special, but this one stood out tonight... "For of His fulness we have all received, and grace upon grace" (John 1:16 NIV).

I love that! Grace upon Grace--what a blessing!

John 4: 14

but whoever drinks the water I give Him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."

This is my life bread...If I don't stay in my word regularly the peace is not there. When one drinks tanted water we are soon to lack strength and become ill....spoken from experience, unfortunantly sometimes i have had to learn the hard way.

John 11:25,26

Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies, and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?"

That verse just jumps out to me every time I read it. It was a great comfort right after my earthly father died, and it still strikes me every time I read it.

Jesus is really getting Martha's attention here. He doesn't just want her to mouth some platitudes, He wants to know what she believes in her heart. Does she believe He can do the amazing, the impossible? Can He really raise Lazarus from the dead? Well, you know the end of the story. Yes, He can. What do you believe?

BTW, love what everyone else had said. It's cool to see what different verses mean to different people.

Here's one I like:

"I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly." John 10:10

Jesus died for us so that we may live. What great love and sacrifice, all done in order to allows us to have a truly living relationship with our Father God.

John 14:2 In my Father's house are many mansions. If it weren't so, I would have told you. I am going to prepare a place for you.

My thoughts turn more towards heaven these days and I love the assurance that our Jesus has gone and is getting heaven ready for us. The very personal word "you" is inclusive of us all.

What great comments and scripture choices! I love how we all chose different verses, but I especially love hearing the special significance the verse has for you.

My favorite is John 14:6, "Jesus answered, I am The Way, The Truth, and The Life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

Such plain speech that, point blank, tells it like it is.

Dear Annette,

You said a mouthful girlfriend. These days, so many people believe there are other ways to heaven, but there's only One.

The verses from John that I selected were John 14:13 and 14; 13: And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. 14: You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

These verses provide much hope to me in my prayer life. Jesus always comes through for me. In many different and unexpected ways as well as well as in many prayed for ways. God is so good to us. We pray and He answers in our best interests. Thank you Father for always being there!

Thank you Devon--it's so comforting to know that we can ask anything in the name of Jesus and He will do it! No matter how big or how small our need is, He listens and acts on our behalf. We serve a great and glorious God!

John 6:35 (NIV) Then Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.

Over the years, my family has been through many trials. We never knew if we were going to be able to have enough to last us through from paycheck to paycheck. Through it all He has been there. Usually something unexpected would keep us going. One year it took a major car accident, although very painful, He helped us through it all and even gave us more than we could have dreamed possible. He truly is watching out for me and for my family in sometimes miraculous ways.

"I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly." John 10:10

I see someone else left this one as well! I love this verse so much because it speaks to my passions. To live an abundant life, I believe, is everyone's goal.

Life abundant for me is full of joy, of happiness, of rich friendships and relationships, of having many examples to share with others of how the Lord has brought me out of the pit, and of knowing that no matter what...I AM on the winning team, and I AM bought with a price, and I AM loved. It's just so wonderful!

Many Christians can be turned off by the idea of "abundance", thinking of it in worldly terms. What other reason is there to be a Christian than to seek after the Lord's heart? How amazing to know that our calling in life is to love and be loved.

I recommend the new Addison Road song, "Hope Now" - the first line is, "If everything comes down to love, then what am I afraid of...?" Good question. Let's live abundantly...be those glorious reflections of the ONE we worship!

Dannielle--You're right. So many Christians abuse the abundance scripts with the name it/claim it stuff etc.
There is a law of sowing an reaping, but people try and apply worldly standards to supernatural truths.
